Letter writing

This is a letter writing activity for people in nursing homes.  One could do this by oneself, or by having multiple people do this in a group, perhaps sharing our experience.   The second link gives specific details and addresses to use. The first link is the WVXU story titled “This Man's Letter Writing Campaign Offers Connection For Nursing Home Residents”.  If you would like to join with others, you may contact Hugh Burns (This email address is being protected from spambots. Prison Volunteer Program

Note:  this program is suspended until further notice due to the distancing directives at the prisons.

The Lebanon Correctional Institution:  The Dharma Center has participated in the prison program at the Lebanon Correctional Institution (LCI) in Lebanon, Ohio for many years.  Each Wednesday evening at 6pm volunteers from the Dharma Center and the Zen Center of Cincinnati go to the prison to lead a practice session with interested inmates. Books on Buddhist texts and current Buddhism thought are provided, studied and discussed.

The program is coordinated through the Religion Department at LCI. If interested in joining the volunteers, please contact Kevin Celarek at (513) 382-9862.

The Dayton Correctional Institution for Women:  The Dharma Center also participates in a prison program at the Dayton Correctional Institute in Dayton, Ohio.  Volunteers lead a practice session every Tuesday at 6pm.  A volunteer from Yellow Springs leads the program on the first, third and fifth Tuesdays and other volunteers lead the program on the second and fourth Tuesdays.
